Today, choose humility. Go low for the sake of others going high. By doing so you will consequently lengthen the king's table with lovers ready to lose their lives for God’s glory. The lower you go in humility the higher Jesus will propel you into his presence, honoring you before God and others.
“Do not exalt yourself in the king’s presence and do not claim a place for yourself among his great men. For it is better for him to say to you, ‘Come up here’ than for him to humiliate you before his nobles.” - Proverbs 25:6-7
One of the laws in the Kingdom of God is that those who humble themselves will be exalted and those who exalt themselves will be humbled (Matt. 23:12). Like anything in life, we choose the outcome of this principle based upon the posture we take before God. Your humility before God sets you up to be honored by him, while your self-exaltation positions you to be humbled by him.
True humility is cultivated from knowing the honor and glory due the king who has graciously invited you into the inner courts to dine with him as family. Once experiencing the extravagant grace and goodness of the king you will long for nothing else but for others to encounter that which you have experienced. Consequently the seat at the end of the table positions you to pull others into the banquet feast of abundance. Your humility will posture you to propel others into closer proximity to the king's presence for the purpose of him receiving his rightful reward in others submission to his leadership. Thus, your humility to be last divinely postures you to be first. When asked by the king, “Who invited you?” a plethora of people will respond by naming you as the one who propelled them into his presence. This posture of humility positions you to receive honor as the King will rightfully reward you by saying, “Come up here good and faithful servant, your reward awaits you” (Matt. 25:21).
“Whose weakness was turned to strength and routed foreign armies.” Hebrews 11:34
While Spirit empowered humility and weakness can be cultivated in times of exaltation and strength, oftentimes it is in our weakest moments of disappointment where we are most empowered to approach the feet of the one who can strengthen us with power. All seasons of crushing and suffering are a gift given by God positioning us to posture ourselves in humility as a weak vessel ready to be made strong. Though Satan attempts to steal away the glory found on the other end of enduring suffering, your current season of weakness is a divine set up by God. Don’t waste this season of suffering disappointment by sitting in despair, embrace it with joy letting it empower you into a deeper depth of humility. God is positioning you to be led to the feet of the one who can give you that which will satisfy and strengthen the ache of your soul. In your humble weakness God will honor you in strength.
“Wisdom’s instruction is to fear the Lord, and humility comes before honor.” - Proverbs 15:33
